Full-time Exempt – Camp Program Coordinator

Start date – May 28 (Summer 2019) or As soon as right candidate is found. Position open until filled.

Catamount Institute’s mission is to develop ecological stewards through education and adventure.

Do you have a passion for outdoor adventure and science education? Do you love summer camp, planning, and organizing?  During the summer, the Camp Program Coordinator is responsible for running and leading the Summer Camp programs with a staff of college age Fellows, Interns, high school guides, and volunteers. During the school year, the Camp Program Coordinator will develop adventures for the next summer, mini-camp opportunities for schools and kids during the school year, evaluate and promote the summer camp programs while also honing their teaching skills teaching on Catamount Institutes other award-winning environmental education programs.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • (2)+ Years Previous summer camp experience leading campers at camp and organizing camp activities
  • Previous experience teaching more formal environmental education a plus
  • Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness EMT a plus (can provide WFR for the right candidate)
  • Proven relationship building skills with parents, campers, staff, leadership, and community
  • Ability to effectively build and maintain relationships with a variety of stakeholders; can respond to and reflect on cultural disparities.
  • Experience in developing, managing, and evaluating budget spreadsheets.
  • Ability to work in non-standard workplaces, including outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Availability to work odd hours including overnights during the summer
  • Demonstrate creativity, enthusiasm, maturity, initiative, sense of humor, flexibility, team spirit, and commitment to Catamount Institute’s mission
  • Able to travel between facilities and outside office activities using a private vehicle, as needed
  • Competently drive 15-passenger vehicle
  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including walking, standing, climbing, bending, reaching, and lifting
  • Can lift up to 50lbs for equipment and/or in emergencies
  • Be able to verbalize thoughts, speak, hear, write clearly and communicate with others in person, email and by phone

Responsibilities Include:

  • Work with Catamount Institute Executive Director, Education Staff, and Board of Directors to create and deliver dynamic outdoor environmental science summer camp programs.
  • Hire and manage seasonal summer camp staff
  • Create other opportunities where new opportunities might exist
  • Collect necessary data for reporting
  • Cultivate relationships with corporate sponsors
  • Assist in developing evaluation criteria to track short- and long-term program success
  • Attend Catamount Institute events as needed and directed
  • Promote and advertise Summer Camp programs to increase enrollment
  • Attend training and seminars as directed to maintain or attain relevant knowledge and certifications needed to support the programs and work
  • Support Executive Director and staff as needed and directed

This is a full-time exempt position – starting salary $29,000-$32,000/year DOE – Reports to Executive Director
