Meet the 2018 Summer Staff

Summer camp has kicked off here at Catamount Institute! We are excited to introduce you to the staff who will be providing incredible experiences all summer for kids aged 6-16!

What keeps you busy September to May?

I am the Field Trip Coordinator for Catamount Institute. I work with teachers and schools to have exciting science adventures outdoors.

Where is your hometown?

I am native to Colorado Springs!

What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?

Sea salt & vinegar crickets

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Teleportation so I can finally be in two places at once!

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Skiing with friends

What does environmental stewardship men to you?

To me, stewardship means knowing everything I can about a resource – it’s ecosystems, history, and how to protect it. But also not keeping that info to myself. A steward actively works to share a place in his/her world to protect it.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Guitars around the campfire (as long as there are no fire bans)

What keeps you busy September to May?

I work at the Catamount Institute year-round! during the school year I coordinate the Young Environmental Stewards (YES) Club and teach on other programs.

Where is your hometown?

Alstead, NH

What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?

An alligator sausage

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

I’d be able to apparat like in Harry Poter and get anywhere in the world instantly.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Skiing and rock climbing

What does environmental stewardship men to you?

Environmental stewardship means taking care of the amazing planet we get to live on. It can be as big as passing a bill limiting carbon emissions or as small as picking up trash.  It means caring about the environment and teaching others to care as well

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Meeting all our campers and goin on adventures like rafting, hiking, and playing in streams

What keeps you busy September to May?

I recently worked at the Deerfield Hills Community Center as an Americore Vista. When Summer camp is done I will be moving to Rifle, Colorado to get more kids outside through their Generation Wild program.

Ann Arbor, Michigan

What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?

Alligator

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

Fly, I have always wanted to soar around and now that I am an adult to avoid traffic and reduce pollution.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Hiking and trail running with a dog!

What does environmental stewardship men to you?

Being aware of your place and space in the world. Living in a way that promotes the well-being of the environment and its inhabitants.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Having fun, learning, & inspiring adventure.

I am a student at Colorado College studying Environmental Science

Fried crickets

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

I would want to fly so I can see the mountains from a new angle.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Backcountry Skiing

What does environmental stewardship men to you?

Environmental Stewardship is taking care of your natural surroundings such that future people can enjoy them just as much as you did.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Inspiring people to care more about the environment

Jen is an Environmental Education intern.

What keeps you busy September to May?

I am a student at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Upstate New York

Where is your hometown?

Manitou Springs, Colorado

What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?

Roasted chicken hearts

If you could have a superpower what would it be?

I would have super strength so I can help people carry things. I can climb really tall things, and I could jump really far.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

Rock Climbing

What does environmental stewardship men to you?

Environmental Stewardship means learning about the environment and how to protect it, and using you love for nature to inspire others to do the same.

What are you looking forward to most this summer?

Spending time outside, learning about nature, and making new friends and playing games.

Anything with chocolate!!
