Enhance your classroom Learning
Go outside with us!
Catamount Outdoor Schools (COS) goal is to enhance students’ classroom learning and sense of ecological stewardship by teaching key concepts from the Colorado Department of Education Standards and Colorado Environmental Education Plan through outdoor education and adventure activities. COS programs are intended to be an enhancement to classroom learning, not a replacement; a collaborative effort between local school districts and Catamount Institute, that inspires a sense of place and community in students with connections between classroom learning and real world applications
According to the Colorado Alliance for Environmental Education, environmental education (EE) is a life-long learning process that increases awareness about the environment and its systems while developing critical-thinking skills that enable responsible decision-making. EE builds knowledge and skills in the sciences, social sciences, and humanities, and allows opportunities to apply those skills.
Benefits of Outdoor School
Volunteer at Outdoor School!
We are always looking for volunteers to help with Catamount Outdoor Schools. Work with students all over the Pikes Peak region or your neighborhood school. You will be part of growing the next generation of environmental leaders. No previous teaching experience is needed; training is provided. All that is necessary is a passion for the outdoors and readiness to share that love with kids.
Become a Catamount Outdoor School!
To become a Catamount Outdoor School your school, grade level or classroom must agree to work in cooperation with the Catamount Institute for a minimum of at least 4 sessions or 12 hours each school year.
